Cultural action

Cycle : Cycle of the fishermen
Lieu de diffusion : CPE / School
Public cible : 0-4 years old

Setting Sail II is a project of extended performances for young children, created from March to June 2021 in 12 daycare centres in the Quebec City region, each hosting 4 distinct performances. Each solo performance is inspired by the world of fishing and takes place outside, in the daycare’s backyard.

The performance follows a gradual evolution for approximately 2 hours. Inside the daycare, a video installation echoes the action taking place outside, and occupies a common space in the daycare for the entire week, extending the artistic experience for the toddlers and educators. Setting Sail II aims to offer the little ones and the grown-ups a moment of beauty, poetry and contemplation.

This project is part of the Fishermen’s Cycle, honouring the coastal cultures, mythologies and sea shanties, ancestral skills related to the sea and the bond to the unknown, the horizon, the absence and solitude. Setting Sail II evokes a new beginning, after the interruptions that resulted from the pandemic. It also symbolizes the hope of new tomorrows when we will live again without restrictions. The performances poetically address themes that bridge the gap between the world of fishing and what we all experience today: the solitude, the waiting and hoping.
